About Us
The Main Street Word is a fan site dedicated to all things Disney. We provide the latest Disney News and Information at your fingertips. We are committed to providing the only the best and most accurate information for our viewers.
“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
-- Walt Disney
This website has its roots way back in 2001 as Mickeyfans' Website. It was a small fan site put together by me when I was only 13 years od. The site contained information about Walt Disney World attractions, movies and links to other Disney websites. Little did we know then, but that small community website would eventually be the basis for what you see today.
As the years progressed and we transitioned our name to MFW, we began to want a more complex and innovative website. In January 2005, we moved to a new, more powerful server which gave the birth to MFW 2.0. This new php-powered website provided a much more dynamic control. The new MFW provided a rich access to Disney News, the ABC Television Schedule, Guestbook, and much more.l
On April 1st, 2006, we finally opened the doors to our much-anticipated Disney Enquirer website. This new website was the biggest task we accomplished to that date. The Disney Enquirer, over its two and half year run, provided access to Disney Theme Park Attractions, Food Locations, Shops and Amenities. We beta-tested a new feature called Directions where viewers could get accurate directions from any theme park location to any other theme park location.
During all this, we also created a series of beloved, highly-publicized articles under the title of Disney Domains. Here, we looked into the future of the company based on the domains they registered. Under this banner, we were the first to uncover such things as the subtitle for National Treasure 2 and many other movie and television-related websites. This series of articles were noted by many other Disney Fan SItes and quite a few news outlets as well. On December 1st, 2007, we were honored to have an article written about us on the front page of the Washington Post's business section [page 2, close up].
“Well, when you're trying to create things that are new, you have to be prepared to be on the edge of risk.”
-- Michael D. Eisner
In May of 2008, I joined the Disney College Program and became a Disney Cast Member until January 2009 when the program ended. Due to a mixture of the program, work and school, I was unable to update the website. In March 2009, DisneyEnquirer.com expired and was taken by another person. In the spirit of Walt Disney, we decided to keep moving forward, seeing this as a chance to innovate and make the website bigger than ever. We wished the new owners luck and decided on a new name.
The Main Street Word was created in the summer of 2009, using the Zikula platform (which is the successor of our old system, PostNuke). It was decided that rather than quickly putting up a copy of the Disney Enquirer, we would make some significant changes. The first change would be the look. Gone is our old complicated design that only took up half the browser. Our current design is much more simplistic, takes up the entire browser and can be easily customized color-wise. The second major change occurred behind the scenes. We wanted to make sure our website was 100% proper XHTML, so it should look the same on every major browser. The menus were also changed to simplify the site design. All our major content can be found under the headings of 'News', 'Theme Parks', 'Entertainment', 'Miscellaneous' and 'About Us'. The entire Theme Parks section received a much needed overhaul, now using a brand new tabbed look and AJAX technology. The Main Street Word is hosted by JustHost.com. JustHost provides unlimited space, tons of features, a free domain (for life) along with much more for a very small monthly price.
The Main Street Word is far from done, in fact, we have quite a few tricks up our sleeves that we think will amaze you when we complete Phase III, hopefully debuting later this year.
“You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world, but it requires people to make the dream a reality.”
-- Walt Disney
The Main Street Word is hereby dedicated to you the viewers. We can build the biggest website in the world, but it would be a hollow shell without you. We thank you for all your input over the years and hope you will follow us into the next chapter of our history. Thanks again!
